We are a concrete contractor working in Hamden, Connecticut, pouring and repairing residential and light commercial flatwork. Homeowners here call us for driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs. Why we only work in one town

Concrete is a local trade because the ground and the weather are local. Knowing that the soil up toward Mount Carmel is rocky till while the lower ground near the Mill River holds water changes how much stone goes under a slab. Knowing how hard the streets get salted here changes which mix we order. A crew that works everywhere pours the same slab everywhere, and in a freeze-thaw climate that is how you end up with a driveway that fails in five years.

How we work

We come out and look at the job in person, always, no exceptions, and at no charge. We measure, check what is under the existing surface, look at how water moves across the property, and then give you a written price. We do not give ballpark numbers over the phone, because a number given sight unseen is either padded or about to change.

On the job, the base gets the time it needs. Excavation, compacted processed stone, steel reinforcement, air-entrained mix, correct pitch for drainage, saw-cut joints within the first day, and proper curing. Those steps are where a slab's lifespan is decided. The finish work is what you see, but it is not what keeps the concrete together.

What we tell you straight

If a repair will serve you better than a replacement, we say so and we do the smaller job. If a slab is past saving, we say that too rather than taking money for a patch that fails next winter. If the weather is wrong for pouring, we reschedule instead of pouring anyway. None of this is remarkable; it is just the way a trade should work, but enough contractors do the opposite that it is worth putting in writing.

The work we take on

Most of our schedule is residential: driveway replacements, backyard patio slabs, front walks, front steps and garage floors. We also take small commercial flatwork: loading pads, dumpster pads, sidewalk sections in front of storefronts and ADA ramps. Very large commercial pours are not our work and we will say so rather than stretch.
